As we age, the jawline can be a problem area for many of us. With sagging skin, looseness, or a double chin, many people often look older than they feel. That’s where jawline contouring comes in. With Dr. Gilpin’s expertise and our advanced techniques, you can have the sculpted and defined jawline you’ve always wanted.
What is Jawline Contouring?
Jawline contouring is any cosmetic procedure that changes the shape or appearance of the jawline. There are surgical and non-surgical options. Jawline augmentation, neck liposuction, Botox (to reduce the masseter muscles), and dermal fillers can all be used to give you the jawline of your dreams. Which one is right for you will depend on the results you’re looking for.
The procedures can give you more jaw definition, improve the symmetry of your jaw, reduce the appearance of a double chin, enhance your facial structure, and even give you a more youthful appearance.
Ideal Candidates for Jawline Contouring
Anyone looking for a more defined jawline is a good candidate for jawline contouring. That said, we do follow a list of criteria to better determine if this is the right treatment for you. You should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of treatment, and be a nonsmoker.
Whether you prefer a surgical procedure or a non-surgical approach, Dr. Gilpin will ensure that he builds the appropriate treatment plan for your needs and improves your facial balance.
Jawline Contouring Surgery Pre Op Recommendations
To start the jawline contouring process, you will want to begin by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Gilpin. During this appointment, he will review your medical history, discuss your goals, answer any and all questions you have, and address your concerns. From there, he will create a custom plan that meets all your goals.
How to prepare for your treatment will depend on the type of jawline surgery or treatment you’re having done. For surgical and non-surgical treatments, you’ll want to avoid alcohol use, blood thinners, and smoking. You will also want to avoid irritating skin products. With surgical treatment, you’ll also need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery.

Jaw Contouring Procedure
What happens during your jawline contouring procedure depends on the type of treatment being done. If you’re having a surgical jawline contouring or neck liposuction, general anesthesia will be administered. With non-surgical treatment, no anesthetic is needed.
Once the anesthesia is set in, incisions will be made so Dr. Gilpin can access the jaw bone and underlying tissues. He will then reshape the jaw area and/or remove excess fat and close the incisions.
With Botox and dermal fillers, there will only be a few injections, and you’ll be ready to start the recovery process.
Results and Recovery for Jaw Contouring Surgery
After jawline contouring surgery, you will want to rest as much as possible and avoid strenuous activity, smoking, and blood thinners. You will likely have swelling and bruising, but those side effects will dissipate within a week or two.
With non-surgical treatment, there is very little recovery time. You may have some slight redness and swelling, but that will subside within a day or two. You can usually return to your normal activities almost immediately. That said, you will want to avoid putting pressure on or rubbing the treatment area, and stay away from strenuous exercise for the first 24-48 hours.
