What is Cheek Filler?
Cheek fillers (also known as cheekbone fillers) are a type of FDA-approved dermal filler designed to restore volume in the cheek area, contour the face, and define the cheekbones. The nonsurgical treatment is a great alternative to cheek implants, cheek augmentation, or other more invasive procedures.
The type of filler injected into the cheeks depends on the results you’re looking for. Hyaluronic acid fillers (HA fillers) are the most common (including Restylane and Juvederm), but there are also poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injections that can provide more structure and longer-lasting results.
Some of the benefits you can expect from cheek fillers include more defined cheekbones, more volume in sunken cheeks, a more youthful appearance, and fewer lines and wrinkles, including reduced nasolabial folds and smile lines.
Who is a Candidate for Cheek Filler?

We require you to be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of treatment, be a nonsmoker, and be at a stable weight.
What Should I Expect During My Cheek Filler Procedure?
To start your cheek filler treatment, we’ll begin by cleaning your skin and, if necessary, applying a topical anesthetic for your comfort. From there, we’ll prepare the injections and use a thin needle to inject the formula underneath the skin of the cheeks. At most, you may feel a slight pinching sensation.
The whole treatment session doesn’t usually take more than 30 minutes.
Side Effects of Cheek Fillers
Cheek fillers, like most treatments or surgical procedures, may come with side effects. That said, the side effects you may experience with cheek fillers are typically very minimal. Side effects can include bruising, tenderness, swelling, and redness. Infection and allergic reactions are also possible, but they are much more rare.
What to Expect After Cheek Filler Treatment
After your cheek injections, you will likely have some bruising, swelling, and tenderness, but they will subside within a day or two. To ensure the best results, you’ll want to avoid touching or putting pressure on your cheeks, drinking alcohol, smoking, and strenuous activities. You will also likely need to avoid makeup and excess heat exposure for at least 24 hours. To reduce swelling, elevate your head when lying down and gently apply ice packs if needed.

How Long Does it Take to Start Working?
You will see results immediately. Most patients see significant improvements before they leave our office. As for full results, it can take up to two weeks for the cheek filler to fully settle.
How Long Do Cheek Filler Results Last?
How long your cheek fillers last depends on the type of filler used. HA fillers generally last up to 12- 18 months depending on the filler. PLLA fillers can last for up to two years. During your consultation, your provider will let you know exactly how long your fillers will last.
