All About Otoplasty
Request ConsultationEar surgery, commonly known as “Otoplasty,” is a procedure that works to improve the size, shape, and aesthetic positioning of the ears. Otoplasty can correct misshapen ears to give a more natural, balanced appearance with the rest of the head and face. The goal of otoplasty is to restore confidence and self-esteem!
Otoplasty can make a patient’s ears looks more natural and well-placed.
Ear surgery can help to repair flaws or deformities in or around the ear area caused by genetics, birth defects, or trauma.
Who is a candidate for ear surgery?
Oftentimes, an otoplasty candidate is someone who has faced ridicule and/or loss of self-esteem because of his or her ears. Otoplasty is a wonderful procedure to restore this confidence and self-esteem in adults and help to preserve it in children. Patients who are in good overall health without chronic ear infections are good candidates for ear surgery.

Is there an age requirement for otoplasty?
As long as a patient is a good candidate for the procedure, he or she may undergo otoplasty once the ear cartilage is stable enough for correction (this generally occurs around five or six years of age). During your consultation with Dr. Gilpin, he will examine and determine if you are a good candidate for otoplasty.
Where are the incisions placed for otoplasty?
The incisions for ear surgery are placed on the back of the ear in order to make them virtually undetectable. If incisions need to be made on the front of the ear, they will be placed within the folds in order to be hidden and inconspicuous.
PATIENT REVIEWS
How long after surgery will the results of otoplasty be visible?
Protruding ears should immediately improve after surgery. More extensive corrections will develop as the ears heal over time and the patient recovers. During your consultation, Dr. Gilpin and his staff will provide details about the recovery process based on your individual condition and needs.
