WHAT IS A MADE FACELIFT?

One of the major causes of aging is the effects of gravity. Over time, gravity causes the tissues and fat pads of the face to fall downward (along with excess skin), reducing the definition of the cheeks and causing jowls and folds lower down. Certain types of facelifts simply lift and tighten the skin without touching the underlying structures, meaning they don’t address the root cause of aging.

The MADE facelift is a unique facial plastic surgery procedure that combines the intensive rejuvenation of the deep plane facelift with the short incision of the mini facelift. HOW IS THE MADE FACELIFT DIFFERENT FROM A TRADITIONAL FACELIFT?

The traditional facelift doesn’t reposition or lift the underlying fat pads or deep tissues of the face. This means that the results can be superficial and short-term. The MADE facelift and deep plane facelift, however, reverse the underlying causes of aging and are a long-term solution to a variety of aging signs like jowls, deep folds, and lack of definition. The MADE facelift also uses a much shorter incision than the traditional facelift, meaning it comes with lower chance of a visible incision line.

Will a Facelift Leave Noticeable Scars?

Dr. Gilpin meticulously hides facelift incisions within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face. When performing a deep plane facelift, the incision typically begins at the hairline of the temples, continues around the ear, and ends in the lower scalp area. Neck lift incisions often wrap behind each of the earlobes and then end in the lower scalp. There is also a small incision under the chin, which is hidden in a natural crease. Dr. Gilpin’s goal is for you to look naturally refreshed, without any evidence that you have undergone a procedure.

What Is Recovery Like After a Facelift?

Dr. Gilpin is highly involved with his patients’ aftercare, and you can expect a personal visit from him at your home or hotel room after your procedure. He will also call you or your caregiver personally the night after your surgery to make sure your recovery is proceeding optimally. It’s recommended that you have a responsible friend or family member stay with you for the first night and drive you home after surgery. During surgery, Dr. Gilpin aims to be as gentle as possible, which usually results in less bruising and swelling, and most of his patients report minimal discomfort after a facelift. Vertical facelift patients may experience a feeling of “tightness”, especially under the chin and neck, which fades as time progresses. Dr. Gilpin will see you on your first post-operative day to remove bandages and check your healing. Swelling and bruising will last from a few days up to two weeks, and you can typically resume social functions within seven to 10 days after surgery. Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks.

What Are the Risks Associated with a Facelift?

When performed by a board-certified surgeon on carefully selected candidates, complications from a facelift are rare. In the rare event complications do occur, they are usually related to adverse reactions to anesthesia, poor healing, or poor scarring.

What Kind of Anesthesia Will Be Used During a Facelift?

Will the Results of My Facelift Be Permanent?
