Submental Liposuction From Start to Finish
Request ConsultationStubborn submental fat, or fat under the chin, rarely responds to diet and exercise. This makes it one of the most common frustrations we see from patients at Gilpin Facial Plastics & Aesthetics. At our luxury Nashville office, you can learn more about ways to treat it with Dr. David Gilpin, our double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon and submental liposuction expert.
What is Submental Liposuction?
Submental liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat from underneath the chin, correcting a concern sometimes called a “double chin.” Liposuction removes stubborn fatty tissue through tiny entry points in the skin using a cannula and surgical vacuum. Using liposuction, facial plastic surgeons can enhance the contours of the chin and improve the overall profile with personalized, long-lasting results.
How Do I Know If I’m Ready for Submental Liposuction?
Many people at a healthy weight still have a double chin – it can be hereditary and especially stubborn, not going away even with dedicated diet and exercise. If you’re bothered by your chin, submental liposuction may be a great option. Your first step is choosing an experienced and qualified facial plastic surgeon who can work with your unique facial aesthetics to personalize your results. Recovery & Results
Submental liposuction can require 2-3 weeks of recovery, during which your activities will be limited. You can expect soreness, swelling, and bruising – to manage these and other side effects, Dr. Gilpin may instruct you to wear a specialized chin strap. It’s also important to keep your head elevated and avoid intensive activities. If you work a desk job, you may be able to return to work within a week, but Dr. Gilpin will review your job responsibilities and recommend when you can safely return.
Swelling will subside within a few weeks, at which point you can begin to enjoy your results. Any residual swelling will go away within a few months. Liposuction can produce long-lasting results when you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Throughout your recovery, Dr. Gilpin will be available to answer your questions, check in, and ensure you love your new look.
