Lower Blepharoplasty: Say Goodbye to Under-Eye Bags and Wrinkles
Posted June 10, 2024 in Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
If you look tired even after a good night’s sleep, or you’re bothered by puffiness or drooping bags under your eyes, a lower blepharoplasty (lower eyelid surgery) is likely the perfect solution for you. When you come into Gilpin Facial Plastics & Aesthetics, Dr. Gilpin will assess your needs and build you a customized treatment plan.
But what exactly does a lower blepharoplasty entail? Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about this life-changing procedure.
What is a Lower Blepharoplasty?
A lower blepharoplasty or eyelid lift is a facial plastic surgery procedure that is used to lift and reposition sagging eyelids and address puffy under-eye bags that don’t seem to go away no matter how much sleep you get. A lower blepharoplasty can remove excess skin and fat in the lower eyelid area and ensure you look years younger, more refreshed, and awake.
A lower blepharoplasty surgery can also be combined with an upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery), fat transfer, and a brow lift for a complete facial rejuvenation.
Benefits of A Lower Blepharoplasty
There are countless benefits to having a lower blepharoplasty with Dr. Gilpin at Gilpin Facial Plastics & Aesthetics, including:
- More youthful and refreshed appearance
- Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
- More rested and alert appearance
- Reduction in sagging skin or puffiness in the undereye area
What Can I Expect During A Lower Blepharoplasty?
During your lower eyelid surgery, we will administer either local anesthetic and sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your needs. From there, Dr. Gilpin will make a small incision on the inside of the eyelid, the outside of the eyelid, or both. It depends on the results you’re looking for. He will then lift the tissues under the eye and remove any excess lower eyelid skin and excess fat. On occasion Dr. Gilpin will perform a fat transfer if the patient has volume loss in this area due to aging. A fat transfer is a beautiful combination to blend loss of volume in the face and provide all encompassing results.
Once everything is repositioned, the incisions will be closed, and you can return home.
Recovery and Results
As you recover, you’ll likely notice some swelling, bruising, and soreness. This is completely normal, as is blurry vision, dry eyes, and sensitivity to light. Before you leave the office, we’ll give you detailed instructions on how to properly care for your incisions and how to manage discomfort and reduce swelling. Typically, prescription pain medication, eye drops, and cold compresses work best. You’ll also want to keep your head elevated to avoid excess swelling.
Most patients can return to work after a week, but it can depend on how active your job is.
Results are immediately noticeable; swelling can last a couple of weeks and after that everything will settle into place beautifully. With a good skincare routine, sun protection, and a healthy lifestyle, your results will last forever.
