Different Types of Facelifts and What to Know About Them
Posted January 15, 2020 in Facelift
The facelift is the gold standard when it comes to facial rejuvenation. However, it sometimes comes as a surprise to learn that there is more than one type of facelift to choose from. Each offers benefits and can be customized to your needs and goals, so here’s what to know about choosing the right type for you with the help of a board-certified facial cosmetic surgeon.
Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift
A brow lift and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) focus on the forehead, brows, eyes, and eyelids. With age, drooping and sagging are common in this region. An upper facelift can sometimes include:
1. A brow lift, or forehead lift, which removes excess skin from the forehead and raises the brow to relieve drooping on the eyelids. This surgery also removes wrinkles from the forehead and bridge of the nose. The elimination of these wrinkles and the new placement of the eyebrows give you a rejuvenated, refreshed look.
2.A blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. This involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eye area. This surgery will remove sagging eyelid skin and under-eye bags.
Deep Plane Facelift (Lower Facelift)
This procedure is the one we typically know as a facelift. It involves tightening and lifting the skin and tissues of the mid-face area around the cheeks and mouth. The focus here is removing sagging skin that causes jowls and double chins as a result of aging and gravity. Along with removing excess skin, your plastic surgeon can tighten the underlying muscles that contribute to a banded appearance in the neck. Sometimes, liposuction is used to remove stubborn fat pockets. This procedure is often the best option for patients who experience the normal signs of aging like sagging and volume loss in the cheeks and around the mouth. For enhanced results, fat transfer can be combined with a traditional facelift to restore volume and fill in areas that are sunken in. This gives an overall rejuvenated, youthful look.
Total Facial Rejuvenation
If your concerns include both the upper and lower face, then a total facial rejuvenation is the option for you. This procedure rejuvenates the upper and lower faces with a browlift, eyelid lift, and deep plane facelift in one procedure. This allows for one procedure, one anesthesia use, and one recovery period.
