What Does Microneedling Do For Your Skin?

Posted March 27, 2020 in Non-Surgical

After a certain point, there’s no getting around the effects of aging no matter how consistent your skincare regimen is. While over-the-counter treatments can be quite effective, a more intensive approach is needed once the skin’s structure starts to breakdown with age. Microneedling is a noninvasive procedure that can rejuvenate the physical and chemical processes that keep the skin looking fresh, smooth, and supple. Gilpin Facial Plastics is happy to offer microneedling treatments to our patients. If you would like to know more about microneedling, start here.

Aging, sun damage, and common skin problems take a toll on the skin’s ability to regenerate new cells and tissues. This is most apparent on your face. The physical structures underneath the skin’s surface, such as collagen and elastin, start to break down as the chemical processes that manufacture these materials become less efficient.

Also, over time, aging skin loses its ability to retain moisture and secrete oil. These conditions account for why wrinkles, fine lines, and dry patches develop. Microneedling offers a natural approach to stimulate the underlying processes that support healthy skin.

As a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure, microneedling works with the skin’s cell and tissue regeneration processes. It does this by making pinpricks across the skin’s surface creating micro-wounds. This process activates the skin’s healing mechanisms, one of which includes collagen production. The result produces new, supple skin that has a more even tone and texture.

Microneedling produces a wide range of restorative effects, including:

  • Smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles
  • Healing acne scars
  • Tightening the skin’s pores
  • Lightens age spots
  • Increases skin elasticity

Microneedling Process & Results

A Microneedling procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. The procedure starts with a topical anesthetic that’s applied to your skin to reduce any pain sensations. From there, a provider will use a hand-held device to create small, superficial channels along your skin’s surface. For the first few days after the procedure, you may experience some skin irritation or redness. You can resume your daily activities as you normally would if you protect your skin from harmful UV rays and stay out of direct sunlight as your skin will be sensitive during this time. We recommend a minimum of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Microneedling results create a fresh, new layer of skin along with brand new underlying collagen tissue. You can expect your skin surface to feel exceptionally smooth and supple.
