How Botox Works

Botox is a purified protein, which relaxes the muscles responsible for creating wrinkles, like the crow’s feet, frown lines, or forehead lines. Dr. Gilpin can also inject Botox to gently raise the eyebrows, soften lip lines, or raise a downturned mouth crease.  Patients can expect to see results in 1-2 weeks from the time of their injections and results generally last for 3-4 months.

The amount of Botox you’ll need depends on factors such as your age, the area you’re treating, and the severity of your wrinkles. No Downtime Needed

No one needs to know you’ve had Botox but you, even immediately after your injections. Botox is commonly referred to as the “lunchtime procedure”.  Dr. Gilpin sends each of his patients with an ice pack to reduce any post-injection redness or inflammation.  It is not uncommon to have a brief headache for the first day or two post-injection.  We recommend that patients do not exercise or apply pressure for an extending period of time (like sleeping face down) for the first 24 hours.
